7th - 8th Grades

Description:

It is important to become knowledgeable in the areas of spelling, vocabulary, and grammar before going on to the next level of Language Arts, which is writing. In this class, students will be given daily assignments that will build their confidence in language arts skills so that they can become strong writers as they begin their high school years. Expect homework assignments to be given daily, and weekly spelling/vocabulary lists and tests given.

This class will be SOLELY focused on grammar, spelling, and vocabulary. I also instruct a Literature Circles class where our primary focus is reading and writing.

There will be no adds/drops after the second week of class. This means that if you choose to take your student out of the class after the 2nd week, you will still be charged the full amount for the class.

Prerequisite:

This is a year long course. However, the cost of the class only covers the first semester.

Instructor Biography
First and foremost I am a mom. I have been a homeschooling mom and I have been a classroom teacher for a combination of 15 years. I love the art of language. Whether it be in paper form, speaking form, musical form, etc., I have found that words are powerful and our strongest avenue of communication! I consider it a privilege to teach young people in a variety of creative ways. Teaching to the student instead of the classroom has always been my biggest goal as I believe that’s how new information is retained and applied in our lives.

Outside of teaching, I have also been in youth leadership in my church for a number of years. Ministering to today’s youth has become a passion and what I believe to be a calling on my life. Combining this calling with the professional skills that I have in a classroom is what gets me excited about teaching!

When I’m not teaching at home or in a classroom, you might find me in the kitchen preparing multitudes of food for the husband and three teen aged boys I love and live with. I also enjoy hiking, creating new things out of old things, and the beach is my breathing place.
