Insects and bugs are of particular interest to young children. This class will introduce simple concepts about insect habits, anatomy, and habitats. Students will get to observe many bugs up close and personal. They will also create a fact board about their favorite insect. This project will be worked on at home as well. These will be on display the last week of school.

Instructor Biography

Ive had the privilege to teach children for over 25 years in a variety of settings. I have a B.A. in early childhood education and a clear professional multiple subjects teaching credential. I’ve taught preschool through second grade most of my career. This year I expanded my experience to include teaching Creative Writing to 5-8 graders. I have enjoyed working with this age very much!

I believe children learn best in a safe and fun environment where they are able to test their ideas and ask lots of questions. Young children enjoy lots of hands-on experiences and I try to always offer opportunities to learn in a variety of modalities. Teaching is more than a career to me and I am passionate about seeing kids enjoy learning!

In recent years, I served as a early literacy coach for San Juan Unified school district. It was fun giving workshops to teachers and parents that support children becoming successful readers. Last year I published my second children’s book, Discover the Promise. My first children’s book, Wild About Manners was published in 2013.

When Im not teaching or writing, I enjoy outdoor sports, reading, photography and drawing.
