4th - 7th Grades

Description:

This class meets for one hour, once a week. Students will learn important concepts from the three main branches of science: Life, Physical, and Earth. With a tri-method curriculum, student will focus on hands-on science labs and activities in the classroom and digital lessons at home. Students will also use a textbook that doubles as their workbook to reinforce and enrich important concepts. ScienceFusion builds inquiry and STEM skills in the classroom, at home, on a computer, and while using the science textbook. The digital curriculum, virtual labs, hands-on activities, and write-in science textbook develop important critical-thinking skills that prepare students for success in future science courses and in the workplace. We will work through three textbook/workbooks over two semesters. The workbooks are listed above and can be purchased with charter funds. They are available at the Houghton Mifflin Harcourt website and on Amazon for $15 each.

Instructor Biography

Katie has been teaching homeschoolers (including her own 3 children) for over 18 years. Her passion for learning is palpable in the classroom as she guides her students on a journey through science, computer skills, and more. A graduate of UC Davis, with a background in genetics and biological anthropology her wisdom, knowledge, and experience is a winning combination that brings students back to Katie’s classroom year after year.

In Katie's class you will also find a partner for homeschooling parents. She thoroughly updates and informs parents with regular email correspondence, even addressing which CA State Standards she covered that week. Her extensive understanding of current charter school and college requirements also makes her an invaluable asset to those looking for full high school credits and resources.
