6th - 12th Grades

Description:

Open Gym is a semester long, physical education course. During each class session students will exercise by playing sports or participating in some form of physical activity. The goal of this class will be to have fun while staying active.

This course is an “open gym” format so activities will vary routinely and students will participate in choosing which sports/games/activities we play. If a student chooses to not participate in an activity, they will have the opportunity to do an alternative, instructor approved, physical activity of their choice. Students can invent their own sport/game and teach it to the class if they choose to do so.

A strong emphasis will be placed on creating a positive and encouraging atmosphere where all students will feel welcome and accepted.

Throughout the semester, we will also discuss:

  • the importance of warming up before physical activity.
  • the benefits of stretching before and after exercise.
  • teamwork, sportsman and the importance of giving positive encouragement to our classmates.

Sports and activities may include:

  • Basketball
  • Whiffleball (indoor baseball)
  • Cone Ball/Monster Ball
  • Volleyball
  • Badminton
  • Pickleball
  • Gym Hockey
  • Indoor Soccer

Instructor Biography

Hi, my name is Paul Gullion. I live in Auburn with my wife, Lynn, and our 11 y.o. son, Elijah. We have been married for 21 years. Our son is homeschooled and attends classes at Inspire Learning Academy.

I have served in some type of ministry for over 20 years, beginning in high school when I joined together with a group of friends to form a drama team ministry.

Over the years I have had the privilege of serving in just about every possible capacity within the church including, but not in any particular order: children's pastor, youth pastor, evangelism pastor, associate pastor, and lead pastor. And, if you know anything about being a pastor, then you know I have also spent countless hours cleaning toilets, vacuuming floors, sweeping parking lots, painting walls, remodeling entire buildings, and of course, emptying lots of trash cans 🙂

For the last 3 years I have been a stay at home dad by choice so that we can continue to homeschool our son. In addition to my responsibilities at home and at ILA, I also coach our son in baseball and football and serve on the board of the Placer Jr. Hillmen youth football organization.

When I'm not busy with home life, school or sports I enjoy spending time with friends and family. I taught myself how to play guitar. I'm not very good but my goal was simply to be able to worship around a campfire or sitting by self at home so mission accomplished. I enjoy hiking and go camping every chance I get. I also enjoy woodworking in my spare time.
