I have been working with young children since 1982, in preschool, kindergarten, school-age, and special education programs, both in the classroom, and all areas of administration.
I was near to completing my Child Development Associates Credential (CDA) through Central Arizona College, when I was requested to take administrative positions. No longer having time in the classroom, and then moving out-of-state, my credential was put on hold. Little did I know that I would not be working with Headstart, or another social or educational program, as planned; but instead, God gave me the vision to home educate my own two children from birth.
Through the years, in our cherished homeschool groups - Bayside Homeschool Network (BHN), Grace Classical Academy (GCA), and The Learning Center (TLC) - I have coordinated history classes, outdoor group games, and P.E., Mileage Club, book discussions, and government classes.
I had the privilege of teaching an in-depth study of the Old Testament to 5-6th graders at our church. Classroom discussions and the Holy Spirit developed this one-year curriculum into a four-year long study! I realized a new passion, and I absolutely love teaching and studying the Old Testament. Throughout the year, at Auburn Grace Community Church, I continue to facilitate recurring children's Bible studies on Baptism and Communion.
A couple of years ago, I co-founded the Auburn Foothills SCOPE Chat Group, providing support and fellowship for local independently home educating families. After our first year, I realized the proper order of my spiritual gifts of Teaching, Encouragement, and Administration, and stepped down as Chat Group Leader, to pursue using these other passions to serve the Lord and families in different ways.
Through Bible Quizzing, and AWANA, as well as the Bible studies and book discussions, I discovered how much I enjoy challenging students to delve more deeply into any subject with which they are presented, motivating them to enjoy research, instilling an appetite for learning, and facilitating topical and philosophical discussions.
I am an eclectic home educator of a Jr High and Senior High schooler, using unit studies, Delight-directed learning, and following the teachings of Charlotte Mason and John Holt. I tend to supplement with a variety of resources, no matter who or what I am teaching. My teaching style includes both lecture and classroom discussion, as well as visual and hands-on activities. All my classes are taught with a conservative Christian worldview.
As a family, we are members of the Gold Country 4H Club (Auburn), enjoy riding our quads at Sand Mtn. in Nevada, boating on Lake Tahoe, and serving in our local church.
